The amazing power of foolish thinking 😃

I paint three scenarios for you, and am sure that at least one will strike a cord with you.

Scenario I

“You have been writing on Medium and you eventually cross a million followers! You are absolutely elated about it. Tony Stubblebine personally calls you and congratulates you on the same. Everyday you wake up to the sound of countless claps and thousands of responses. Your earnings are so high that Medium had to add additional due diligence steps before transferring it to your Stripe account. Fellow medium writers are writing hundreds of articles about you, as how you are one of the best Medium writers, and are increasing their views and followers in this process!”

Scenario II

“You started an AI company and your product is an instant hit. TechCrunch just featured you on the their homepage as “Leading visionaries of Modern Times”, and YCombinator is desperately vying for you to join their esteemed team of Venture Capitalists and Angel Investors! CEOs of leading technology companies are chasing you for mergers. Sundar Pichai just agreed for a meeting with you six months later because your calendar has no free slot prior to that.”

Scenario III (for my good friend Denis 😃)

Your research in Physics has just won a Nobel price. Prestigious science institutions are chasing you for guest lectures and to join their respective institutions. Scholars across the globe are citing your research and your citation count is sky high. There is a sub-atomic particle that has been named after you for your pathbreaking contribution to the world of Physics. Recently, Oxford announced a scholarship in your honor to support bright students from war affected countries.

It does not matter whether we reach even an inch closer to what we have painted above. What matters is that while you were thinking about this — it brought a smile on our face.

I. Anything that brings a smile to our face, is worth adapting in our life.

Let me share a very personal experience. Once I was pretty depressed, and did not know how to come out of it. For hours I was thinking, and going deeper and deeper into it. Suddenly, I got a call from my friend, and we talked about utterly useless and nonsense things. We painted absurd scenarios for future, revolving around our future empires, retirement plans and lots of idle time plus money. Sometimes your thoughts are so absurd that it inevitably makes you smile. Maybe we will never get there, and it is foolish of most of us to even think this way. But its absolutely fine — what matters most is that it brought a smile on my face, and took me out of that dark phase.

II. We must let our thoughts wander. We never know where they are going to take us!!

I wonder if anyone has the ability to imagine as I do 😃. I find it to be most useless and lazy thing to do, yet I get tired of doing it.

I paint the most weird scenarios and continue to be in that zone for days. The only way for me to get out of it is to paint another weird scenario and go into it. As I write this, I am realizing how scary it is, but this is an honest truth. I live in my imaginations, while only occasionally hopping on to the reality.

But it is okay.

The Silent Monk’s thoughts are smarter than the Silent Monk himself. As my mind wanders, it dives into the deepest oceans of thoughts, and finds the finest pearls of wisdom. The Pearls of Wisdom that eventually guide us to live more meaningfully in reality.

III. In some way, our absurd thoughts define our personality and our ambition.

Our absurd thoughts often define our ambition and motivate us all to work towards it. Maybe a million Medium followers is too much, but I am sure that anyone who is aiming that and putting efforts towards it, will surely reach somewhere — and it will be worth it.

As I end this article, Just a caution as you might try to exercise this superpower — we must make sure that our thoughts wander in the right direction. With so much negativity surrounding us, it is possible for us to deviate, and we must know how to pull us back. And the solution is pretty simple, just divert your mind to something positive and it will follow you. Need a prompt, just think of a million Medium followers right now!

Don’t just count your chickens before they hatch, but count them 10 times more. And put that positivity and optimism to work — to see wonders happen in your life!

Please share your thoughts about the article, and also your most absurd thought😃. I would love to read them all.
