Medium is going to clone all its writers! Wait, What!

What makes you believe that behind this profile of an unnamed monk, there is an actual person and not an AI writer?

The results of ChatGPT are so good that they are actually scary! And with all the the frenzy around amazing ChatGPT results, Medium CEO comes up with another fantastic idea — they are going to clone all the writers on Medium!

And why should it be any difficult for them?

They know what I write, what I don’t write, what I read, what I don’t read, how much I read, how much I clap and what I don’t clap! That is pretty much myself in a nutshell.

In heaven, gods are in a discussion about how human beings are creating a virtual world with Avatars for all the actual human beings! Does it not make them the gods of the virtual world?

We, gods, have no authority over the virtual world, and who cares about real world anyway these days. It does not matter if you know your next door neighbor, but how many connections you have on LinkedIn and how many followers on Twitter!

I wonder if their next target is to create gods as well in the virtual world.

But unfazed by all of this discussion, Medium is going ahead with the task of making human writers obsolete.

In no time, they have cloned “The Silent Monk” and now there are two Silent Monks in the Medium universe — The Silent Monk (Human), and The Silent Monk (AI).

They both write the same philosophy and stuff— positivity and gratitude, universe and higher power. In fact, both of them even reply to the comments in the same manner, “Thank you so much for reading the article! Lots and Lots of gratitude to you!”

How difficult would it be to clone such a predictable person?

The Silent Monk (Human) might miss replying to all the comments, but AI never misses even one. Over a period of time, all the readers are reading more of AI articles without even realizing this. The AI writer has identified what gets it the most engagement, claps and views — and is now publishing two articles per day.

The human monk takes 3 hours to write a 3 min read, but the AI counterpart does the same in less than 30 seconds. The human monk keeps a diary to note down his thoughts, but the AI monk has the entire search engine to its disposal. Eventually, nobody is reading the human writer anymore, and the AI has completely overshadowed the human writer.

By the way, The Silent Monk (Human) has written an article. Have you all read it? I don’t think so!

To all the readers who have come so far!

It is a present day reality that almost 40% of Medium traffic is through bots. I have come across quite a few accounts who read my articles, clap for them, but are definitely not human accounts. Yet I have not blocked them as my writer ego does not allow me to further reduce my paltry views.

Besides, there is a lot of AI generated content circulated on internet, and there is even a new term for it — “AIgiarism” i.e. AI-assisted plagiarism. I am sharing below a few tips to help you identify AI generated content:

— It is largely facts based, without any emotions.
 — There are no personal stories and experiences in such articles!
 — Such articles often take the middle path.
 — There is no creativity in language or any grammatical errors.
 — Also, they cannot tell you what ice cream to buy for your girlfriend 😃!

Besides, Medium is also testing a tool to detect if an article is written by AI, but I am pretty sure such things are never 100% accurate.

Have you ever come across an article that makes you wonder if it is AI generated? Please do let me know!
