When I asked God, “Why can I not write a poem like my poet friend John Hansen😢?
God Himself came to my dream and I asked him this stupid question! (#5 of 10)
God always fulfils his promise. And as He promised, He came to my dream for a fifth time for me to ask yet another question. But rather than bowing before Him and asking Him question, I was crying inconsolably like a child. Literally, like a child 😢!
God can never see any of His child crying. And hence, for the first time in my dreams, He came and hugged me. A hug so gentle, yet so tight! After He wiped my tears, He asked —
My dearest Monk,
Your tears are the most precious thing in the world for me. I can see anything and everything, but not you crying.
Tell me and tell me all, what bothers you so much that you are wasting your precious tears for it?
I continued to act if I was crying for some more time, just like a child does when he wants his demands to be fulfilled by his parents. Eventually, I ended the act and said —
Dear God,
Why can I not write a poem like my dear poet friend John Hansen?
I read his poems, and there is so much rhythm in them that they sound music to me.
What makes it worse is that he says he can write a poem in 15 minutes! I cannot even write a paragraph in 15 minutes! Even writing this article will take me 3 hours!
And so is Misbah too a great poet! They keep giving each other prompts, and keep writing poems and keep appreciating each other. What they don’t know that they are constantly teasing me that I cannot write a poem!
On the contrary, I have such a poor control of English language that even a sixth grader can write better than me. Every publication editor I send my articles to, has to make so many corrections! One even said to me — “The draft needs to be severely improved to be even considered for publication!”
God, why did You give all the poetry and language skills to John and others, but nothing to me 😢?
Never before in my dreams did I see God laughing, but here He was — laughing constantly. He continued to hug me and only after I had calmed down, He smiled in the most pleasant manner (as He always does) and said the following:
My dearest Monk,
A Red color does not complain why it is not Green! Both of them are beautiful and unique in their own way.
A rainbow is always so beautiful because there are seven completely different colors coming together to form one.
Such is our world as well. Each and everyone of you has a different color, a different personality, a different skillset. When we all come together, live in harmony and appreciate each other, the world becomes as beautiful as a rainbow.
Often we don’t see what we have, but are constantly looking for what we don’t have!
Did I not tell you that yesterday I met John and Misbah, and they asked me why I do not come to their dreams for conversations but only The Silent Monk’s?
My dearest monk, you are special just like my every other child! We all must do the part that has been assigned to us. So wipe your tears, get up, write an article and help me spread this message.
Besides, I am so happy that there is still a child inside you!
The moment God said this, I smiled and understood where I had been wrong. Often, we have a tendency to only see what we don’t have. Just then, I could hear the 4 o’clock alarm ringing in the background. I thanked God for the message, woke up and began writing this article.
John and Misbah, I hope you would not mind me tagging you in the story and hence published it without first asking you.
If for any reason, you would not want that, please do drop me a note and I will do the needful.
Also, I hope now you know what I feel when reading your poems, which for some reason you make it sound so easy to write!
And many congratulation John for your Top writer tag for Poetry 👏!
