Letter to my future 60 year older self

Hello Silent Monk,

I hope you are doing well, and your mind is at peace. This is yourself, but when you were 30 years old. As you are now embarking on your golden retirement age, I am glad that you are able to find some time for yourself (I hope you do!!).

I know you like watching sunset on a beach with a cup of tea in your hand. And as you would be surely doing this some day, and remembering the good old memories — I am writing this letter for you to reflect on the same.

I. I really hope life would have turned out well for you.

Whatever we may plan, life always does what it wants to does. I really hope it would have turned out well for you. Life presents its ups and down — but as I know you, you would have been able to traverse all of that, and would be much wiser than what I am today.

I know I have many imperfections — be it my anger or my impatience— but I can assure you that have been working on them, and would not let you embarrass yourself because of my shortcomings.

II. Do all that I could not do.

I must confess that I often think more about yourself than myself. I save as much as I can, and am gladly paying EMIs so that you would not have to bother about your home anymore.

And in this process, I have missed a lot of things — be it that fancy motorcycle, or the dream vacation I always wanted to go, or that cool watch I always wanted. Often I feel bad about it, but its ok! Promise me, you will do all that. And if you do so, I would have no regrets.

III. Please take care of your health.

I know I am guilty at this, and that I have often ignored my health while prioritizing other things. I am deeply sorry, and hope you are still healthy and fine. Since now I am providing for all your requirements, you do not have an excuse to not take care of yourself.

Try going for a morning walk for a start. It is said that morning air is very clean and refreshing. Or try doing Yoga — take a deep breathe in, and a deep breathe out.

You have to make up for all my shortcomings in this regard.

IV. I hope you have been able to find love.

People say life is all the more beautiful when you have someone to share it with. I have not experienced that yet, but am very patiently hoping to find what life has in store for me.

By the time you would be reading this letter, I know you would have found someone along the way — as life has never disappointed me (both of us). Tell me how she is, do you both go out in rain, or for night time ice-creams. Share all the details with me when you write back to this letter.

I have too much to share and ask, but am a little short of time here. I also have an article to publish today. But you do not worry about me. I am doing just fine, and setting the stage for you. Besides, life has always been very kind to me (both of us).

Lastly, I hope you still are “The Silent Monk” and continue to share your thoughts somehow somewhere.

Share more details when you write back. I shall be waiting for your reply.

With warm regards,

The Silent Monk
